The Hari is committed to achieving environmental and social sustainability within the hotel.
The Hari is committed to achieving environmental and social sustainability within the hotel, we are working towards giving guests an energy conscious and environmentally-friendly stay.
We are working hard on several initiatives such as minimising the use of plastic and replacing certain items for more sustainable materials. We pledge to reduce both our food waste and our consumption of energy and water throughout the property. Refrigerator and freezer temperatures are monitored on a daily basis, motion light sensors are established within the back of house areas and low-energy light bulbs are used in the property.
Our waste is removed by Wandsworth Council, who transport it by barge along the River Thames rather than by road, saving over 100,000 lorry trips per year. It also takes its rubbish to the Energy from Waste facility, which converts most of its black bag rubbish into energy and then exports 66 megawatts of electricity into the UK’s National Grid, enough to power over 100,000 homes.
We are a proud advocate of the Born Free Foundation, an international wildlife charity dedicated to opposing the exploitation of wild animals in captivity. Its supportive initiatives include a ‘Jasper’ cocktail, where £1 is donated to the charity per every cocktail sold, and the offer of animal adoption packs to younger guests to educate them about the importance of animal conservation.
Our ‘Make a Change’ committee is looking at broadening environmental awareness within the business, working with colleagues on CSR activities and increasing involvement in the local community.
The hotel is also committed to social responsibility, we champion local employment and fair trade. Purchasing preferences are given to fair trade or eco-certified products and also given to locally produced goods and services where possible.
We recognise that business practices have an impact on both the community and the environment, we are proud to be selected for It Must Be NOW, a platform that helps to make these efforts more transparent.
The Hari is aware that this will be an ongoing journey and therefore we will make a constant effort to review our policies internally on a regular basis.
