Best London Walks Discover London by foot

Spring is here, which means the days are lighter, warmer, and perfect for long walks to explore London. Whether you enjoy a full nature walk, a riverside stroll, or a city trail, our list has it all.

Richmond Park

Get lost in the ancient woods and hills of Richmond Park, famous for its expansive green area and deer sightings. To get there, hop on the district line to Richmond, and walk along the river until you reach the park. In this historic green space, you will find architectural features that existed 150 years ago, as well as beautiful lakes. If you prefer a leisurely stroll, visit Pembroke Lodge, a Georgian Mansion with views of the Thames, or for a longer, scenic route, venture on the Tamsin Trail. Finally, don’t leave without visiting the Isabella Plantation, a stunning 40-acre woodland garden from the 1800s, that is home to incredible wildlife.

Thames Path

For scenic London landmarks, this walk is one-of-a-kind. While the Thames Path stretches for miles, we recommend the path from Chelsea Bridge to Tower Bridge, a roughly 2-hour walk along the river Thames. Begin on the north side of Chelsea Bridge, and walk past Tate Britain, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, before crossing Westminster Bridge. See the London Eye, Shakespeare’s Globe, and pop into Borough Market for delicious food. End in Tower Bridge for up-close city views, and as an extra activity visit the Tower of London. This route will ensure you see the city’s best spots!

Hampstead Heath Loop

This is one of London’s best known and most beloved gems. There are different trails you can choose from to explore this wonderful ‘wild’ spot in the city; some are longer, but there are plenty of shorter walks, perfect for the little ones. Don’t miss out on Kenwood House, and its incredible art collection, as well as taking in views of London’s skyline whilst your surrounded by wildlife and greenery. Careful, as Hampstead Heath can get muddy after rainy days, but if you’re lucky enough to get out during the warm summer days, be sure to take a dip into their bathing ponds as a refresher!

Blue Plaque Walk

For a city walk we recommend an audio tour with Storystock Sounds, where history is brought vividly to life through an immersive audio journey inspired by the city’s iconic Blue Plaques. Follow the map, find the house, press play, and let London do the talking. It’s an intimate way to explore the capital, one story at a time. All you’ll need is a smartphone and a pair of headphones. Each walk features seven carefully crafted audio stories, each lasting around three to four minutes, perfectly paced for a thoughtful wander through the city’s past. History, after all, is best discovered on foot.

Primrose Hill and Regent’s Park Circular walk

Admire the scenery at Primrose Hill and Regent’s Park in a 2-hour circular walk. Begin  at Regent’s Park Underground station and follow the sign to Park Square Gardens. From there, make your way up Primrose Hill and take in one of London’s best-known views. On a clear day make sure to stop for a moment, see the skyline and soak-up a bit of sun. Descend through the left path of Regent’s Park where you will come across the Boating Lake. This walk is ideal if you want to be in nature but remain close to Central London. You’ll be near incredible neighbourhoods like Marylebone, perfect for boutique shopping and great cafes!

Parkland Walk

The Parkland Walk is the longest linear nature reserve in London and follows a former railway line connecting Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace. Get off at Finsbury Park Station or Manor House Station and walk to the Parkland Walk park. Follow the trail surrounded by greenery and history that ends in Muswell Hill, a gorgeous area in north London. Continue the walk up to Alexandra Park for a beautiful view. Once there, make sure to pop over to Alexandra Palace, a historical spot with a legacy of a ‘People’s Place’, for public resort and recreation!
