1. Central Market
Before the renovation, the Central Market sold various poultry, fish, meat, and vegetables, making it the top choice for Central residents to buy groceries. It is said that the first generation of Central Market was contracted and operated by a Chinese named “Ah Huan,” opening on June 10, 1842, and moving to its current location in 1858.
Before the government reclaimed it for revitalization projects, the market underwent three reconstructions.
The Central Market revitalization project began in 2017 and was completed in 2020, reopening to the public and providing a “city oasis” leisure space for office workers and residents in the bustling Central district. The current Central Market offers a variety of popular dining and retail shops, including street snacks, local brand boutiques, and various trendy shops.
The revitalized atrium and pedestrian walkways have added vibrancy and light, becoming a new hotspot for photo opportunities in Hong Kong’s Central and Western District.
