Art Basel Hong Kong is one of the most anticipated international art fairs in Hong Kong every March. This guide covers time, location, ticketing and entry tips.
Art Basel Hong Kong is an international art fair originating from Basel, Switzerland, with editions in Miami Beach and Paris. The Hong Kong fair is one of Asia’s most representative contemporary art events, gathering artists, collectors, professionals and enthusiasts from around the world.
In 2026, Art Basel Hong Kong brings together around 240 leading galleries from 41 countries and regions, with over half from the Asia-Pacific region. The fair features installations, special curated sectors, talks and city-wide collaborations.
Main Exhibition – Galleries: Presenting works spanning from the postwar period to the contemporary era, and from two‑dimensional practices to new media, offering a comprehensive overview of the global and Asian art landscapes.
Exhibition – Encounters: It will be jointly curated for the first time by four Asia‑based curators, including Mami Kataoka, Director of the Mori Art Museum, and Isabella Tam of M+, presenting large‑scale installations, sculptures, and performance works from a cross‑regional perspective.
Focus Exhibition – Kabinett: Kabinett will feature small “exhibitions within the exhibition” inside gallery booths, taking forms such as archival‑style historical presentations, focused solo presentations, and thematic groupings of works.
New Section – Echoes: The fair will introduce the Echoes sector for the first time in 2026, focusing on curated projects created within the past five years and involving up to three artists, with an emphasis on current issues and an experimental spirit.
Film Section – Film: This year’s Film Program is curated for the first time by local pioneering media artist Ellen Pau, with a focus on video and moving‑image works.
Lectures and Talks – Conversations: The flagship talks program returns in an expanded four‑day format, with one day guest‑curated by Venus Lau, Director of Jakarta’s Museum MACAN. Bringing together artists, curators, collectors, and cross‑disciplinary practitioners from Asia and around the world, the program explores topics spanning art and society, technology, and urbanism.
Collaboration with M+ – Outdoor Media Facade Commission: A jointly commissioned work will be presented on M+’s outdoor media facade. This year features an animated work, 3 to 12 Nautical Miles, by Pakistani American artist Shahzia Sikander, exploring historical and contemporary trade networks.
During “Hong Kong Art Week” each March, the dates of Art Basel and Art Central almost overlap, leading many people to confuse the two. In fact, they differ slightly in nature, location, and overall atmosphere.

After a full day at Art Basel, feel the need to quietly reflect on the works you have just experienced? Consider heading to The Hari, located in the heart of Wan Chai, where the artistic atmosphere extends seamlessly from the Convention Centre into the hotel itself. The Hari is a modern luxury art hotel, with art deeply embedded in the brand’s DNA. Across its various floors and public spaces, you will find a rich collection of distinctive artworks and thoughtful design details, creating a relaxed and comfortable setting where you can continue to explore art, unwind, and chat with friends about the highlights you’ve just seen at the fair.
After spending hours at the exhibition, what you may appreciate most is a comfortable sofa and a refreshing or energising drink to recharge. The Lounge at The Hari is an ideal place to slow down. Choose from coffee, red or white wine, or one of the hotel’s signature cocktails, paired with light bites. As you scroll through photos of artworks you captured earlier and exchange thoughts on your favourite galleries and artists, you can savour a slower, more relaxed rhythm—giving yourself space to absorb the inspiration gathered from Art Basel.
