How does your life and the world around you influence your art, and how does art influence your life?
My life is my art. My experiences feed into my work. I see art-making as a solitary path. It isn’t always glamorous—in fact, it often demands a heightened sensitivity to the world. Most of the time, it means confronting uncomfortable truths, asking questions that are easily ignored, and shedding light on what many would rather not see. It’s often lonely, even helpless, and I try to stay as critical as possible—thoughtful rather than cynical.
Every artist hopes their work can accomplish something or make someone feel a certain way. What do you want your art to do?
I don’t think about the audience during the process. But it is always exciting and interesting to see people’s reactions and critiques afterwards.
